It was love at first sight when I entered Laku. This cozy boutique oozes vintage charm, from the shabby chic display shelves and the lovingly-worn hardwood floors to the turn-of-the-century mannequin busts. Handcrafted hats, women's clothing and handbags in luscious velvet, silk, and linen make their way to the front window from owner/designer Yaeko Yamashita's sewing table in the back of her store. A simply crafted, slouchy hat becomes a decadent accessory when crafted in deep red velvet. Swank slippers created in soft, shiny silks are a sure-to-please item for any pampered princess, as are hand-stitched baby shoes for the princess-to-be. It’s never too early to appreciate the finer things of life.
