I wore my polka-dot silk dress from H&M for the Independent Fashion Blogger Conference on February 10th. Yes, it was 15* below, or felt that way, but I had a heavy overcoat, gloves, tights and had only to  walk, literally one block from my hotel (The Standard New York) to Milk Studios where the Evolving Influence Conference was being held. Amidst the hub-bub about influential bloggers (I am pictured here with Amy Chandra of Midtown Girl). The conference featured keynote speakers Proenza Schouler and presented the opportunity to catch up with many other lovely bloggers and friends. In the midst of the excitement someone mentioned to me that Michelle Obama had worn the same dress as I that morning on The Today Show and Regis and Kelly. What a serendipitious moment! Although The First Lady had sleeves sewn on and  I wore a shrunken/cropped blazer (also from H&M) to keep off the chill in the drafty art gallery turned fashion blogger extravaganza. Fred Segal Melrose, a Los Angeles Shopping Destination for Trendsetting Brands Coveted by Stars and Their Stylists

Fred Segal is my must see store when vising Los Angeles. Visiting LA and not stopping by for a bit of shopping at Fred Segal is like going to New York and not indulging in a frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity. A destination for trendspotters and trendsetters alike, it is the home of celebrity must-haves and all that is cool and hip about LA. From Melrose you’ll notice the  ivy-covered facade with the iconic vintage blue and red logo. Inside you’ll find a marketplace of mini boutiques selling everything from hard-to-find beauty products, just-launched denim brands, and emerging brands coveted by Hollywood’s trendsetting celebrities and their stylists.

Fred Segal, formerly a clothing salesman created a the first ‘Jeans Bar’ in  his jeans-only store in 1960 at the current  Crescent Boulevard location. Along with it’s success two stores were opened one in Hollywood the other in Santa Monica.  Within the Fred Segal retail umbrella emerged employee-owned boutiques. Today the Melrose store has been rebranded as the flagship store of the Ron Herman group of boutiques (although the ivy embellished logo remains) and the Santa Monica store remains as Fred Segal Santa Monica.

Just as in 1960, today you’ll find brands at Fred Segal you won’t find anywhere else. Today you’ll find brands including 3.1 Phillip Lim, Simone Camille, Rag & Bone, Autumn Cashmere and more.

We adore arm candy, and by that, we mean a number of cool bracelets stacked on our wrists. Mainly decorated with studs both large and small, this trend can easily flow into your day or evening outfit. TheEnvied looked largely at Nicole Richie and the laidback style of Vanessa Hudgens in order to duplicate the style — both are known for layering on accessories, especially a selection of great leather wrap bracelets. Vanessa is a huge fan of these crystal bracelets by Chan Luu that are completely stunning and edgy. We can also see the actress also rocking this wrap bracelet by Hive and Honey. To get Nicole’s look (pictured), try layering pieces like this gold studded tan wrap from Gorjana and this lust-worthy version from Burberry Prorsum. Are you looking forward to the opening of Eat, Pray, Love this Friday? I am! Julia Robert’s casual chic and eco-friendly globetrotter style has me intrigued. I am usually a JBrand Jeans and Repetto ballet flat and Birkin girl. From the clips of the filem I’ve seen so far, this film has inspired me to (perhaps) add a bit of BoHo flair to my repertoire. One of my faves is the Rising Tide Hobo Handbag (upper right). It is a bit (alot!) more understated than the other bags featured here. I love this bag even more since it is sewn in a fair trade co-op factory from recycled saris. The co-op employs women so that they can earn a fair wage and support their families. The fabric comes from old saris and scraps of cloth and remade using the “Kantha” method which is a form of quilting or embroidery. This traditional technique is native to the Bengal women who use this method to make quilts. The quilts are also called “Ralli” which means to mix or connect. I have been following Rising Tide since their launch and am thrilled to see get this celebrity exposure!

Also spotted in the film is the Simone Camille Carry All tote (top left). It seems to be the luxe boho tote pick of the summer! It is the brainchild of Hollywood stylist Simone Harouche. Read more on Simone in her “Stylist Picks” feature on Who What Wear.  The lavisly embellsished oversized tote ($1860!) was first made by Simone herself and then her celeb friends started asking for them. At They are sold out at Net-a-Porter, but Ron Herman stocks them as well. So give them a try. You can also bet you’ll be seeing a bevy of copies in the coming months. Also from Simone Camille is the “Messenger” style shown middle right.

Not necessarily a patchwork or quilted bag, the “Nina” clutch by Jada Tribe, available at Calypso St Barths is a dyed clutch with woven pattern. This sweet thing is oozes with that lovely handmade appeal. The naturally dyed clutch is accented with a beaded zipper pull it is also recycled sustainable & eco-friendly. $95
